"In a way I regret taking the 5-hour Fine Tuning workshop instead of the 6-week writing workshop because I loved the time I spent with Jane so much. I wish it didn’t have to end so soon. However, in defense of the 5-hour workshop, it was worth every penny of my tuition. It was intense, challenging and much more hands on then I expected, but that’s how we learn. It was definitely better than attending a live writing workshop with a room full of other students. Jane had me write a bio before class began and she customized her lessons to fit my needs. She provided guidance and nudged me to search within myself. Her exercises were great in unlocking the labyrinth of my subconscious. Jane’s guidance revealed a few strengths I had that I didn’t even know were there. She’s a fantastic mentor who is inspiring and encouraging. She provided honest feedback and great suggestions for improving my writing. She tied everything together beautifully. It was time and money well spent. I’m really glad I took her workshop."
“I've taken a number of online writing classes and for the most part, they've been beneficial. However, the fact that this class was small, we had nearly one-on-one mentoring from Lea.(I suspect she'd do this if it were a large writing class) . She was honest in her feedback, pointing out strength and weaknesses in our writing, and willingly shared information, knowledge, and her own writing experiences. She made the classroom environment comfortable and personal. You've got a great teacher on staff. Keep her.”
"I was very impressed with this writing class. Lea's advice was concise and helpful. She gave honest, constructive criticism in an encouraging way. Particularly amazing to me was her ability to give help across various genres. Only complaint: the writing class was too short!"
"I just took a look at the first assignment! And let me just say WOW! I can tell this writing course is going to be a lot more incredible than I thought it would be! (and that's saying something!) The first assignment looks/is amazing. Not only have you given the assignment, but you've given tons of background (yours and others) information to show what you mean by a movie philosophy, to illustrate what you want in the assignment. I especially loved your review of Vanilla Sky. I didn't like that movie either and almost left the theatre half way through; I would of too, if I hadn't paid full price ($13.50 at the time) to see that lousy flick. You've given me food for thought. I've never thought of my movie critic philosophy; what I see/think when I watch movies, what draws me. Way to go, Betty Jo! I can't wait to get started!!!!!"
"I filled out an evaluation last week on this writing class, thinking because it's an extended class and I'm in the first month, that perhaps there's not enough time to evaluate it appropriately. However, I do need to let you know how helpful Floriana has been to me. I am a novice at poetry and she has gone above and beyond to communicate personally with me through nearly daily emails, without charging a mentoring fee. This is such a help. Our class is small and the student interaction is low. Floriana has offered encouragement and suggestions through email correspondence. I don't know about the other students, but I have certainly taken advantage of her helpful offers. One suggestion I might offer is giving a bit more work inside the classroom. Most students don't want extra work, but I think we would benefit from the challenge."
"I had so much fun with The Reel Deel. Thewriting lessons were varied, never boring and helped me to look at movies in a different way. Betty Jo was awsome and I can only hope that she'll teach again. I'll take any course she offers! Only complaint: The class too short!"
"I found Jane Bernard to be a very dedicated and caring instructor. I got great feedback and would definitely take another writing course!"
"Floriana has sent me numerous personal emails, encouraging my poetry writing and sharing her personal style and tips that she has learned. This gives her high marks from me. Poetry is new to me, so I've already learned several important aspects of poetry and am looking forward to more."
"Erica, I've really enjoyed this writing class. You made it very challenging for me, and managed to pull a lot out of me... the workshop was well worth it."
